What is the program all about?

We offer a uniquely Australian childbirth education program with a strong emphasis on a positive birth. You will learn how to create and maintain a positive mindset, tools and techniques to help you manage sensations, active birth skills and the options that may be made available to you. Our hypnobirthing program is evidence based, and you can expect that only the most up to date and proven pregnancy and childbirth information will be provided to you.

Hypnobirthing sounds kind of weird. Does it mean I won't have control?

'Hypno' refers to the self hypnosis that you will learn in order to get yourself into a very deep state of relaxation so that you can birth calmly and instinctively. Far from being new age, its been reported to have been used as a replacement for anesthetics during surgery dating back to the 1840's.

There is also a LOT going on inside your body when you are having a baby, so it's safe to say you are likely going to be aware of the amazing job it's doing. The aim of the program is to create a positive mindset and tools to help you manage these sensations.

What if I don't end up having or wanting a natural birth, or have a cesarean?

That's OK, the tools we teach in our program will equip you to manage your labour and whatever turn it may take. Our emphasis is on a POSITIVE birth, and that means different things to different people.

If you know in advance that you need or want a cesarean Hypnobirthing Australia™ have developed a world first positive cesarean course. Find out more about it here

Can my support person attend?

Yes please! Our childbirth education program is as much about the partners as it is about the mums! Partners will learn about the process of birth and what is going on inside the mother, they will learn how to support you, advocate for you and be completely involved in the process.

What if my support partner is not my baby's father?

That's OK, a support partner can be anyone....your mother, sister, close friend or a professional doula. There are never any judgements over a woman's choice of support partner, all are welcome in our classes.

When should I start the program?

Between 20-30 weeks is ideal as this gives you time to practice the techniques. That being said, it's never too late to prepare for a calm birth. I personally have taught a mum at 36 weeks.
