How can you prepare for a positive birth?

  • Surround yourself with positive birth stories and politely decline to hear other peoples negative birth experiences. Their experience does not dictate what your experience will be. Remember, you will have education, mindset and preparation on your side.

  • Educate yourself on the different interventions that might be presented to you during your birth. The last thing you want when you are in full blown labour is to be presented with an intervention that you had not considered.

  • Only use EVIDENCE-BASED resources when considering your birth preferences. Unfortunately there is a lot of false information out there, don't be fooled by wishy washy scare tactics.

  • Develop your birth preferences early and discuss them your caregivers. They should be supportive of your preferences and you should feel respected as a child bearing woman.

  • Ensure your birth partner/s know your birth preferences through and through and are prepared to advocate on your behalf during your birth.

  • Surround yourself with positive words, images and affirmations.
